Top Technology Trends Driving Electrification in Agricultural Equipment
Electrification is the future.
Although many industries are rapidly undergoing
electrification, the barriers to adoption for
agricultural equipment have been too substantial
to overcome until recently.
Traditional lead-acid batteries simply cannot meet
the operational and performance demands the
agriculture industry contends with. Most notably,
it has been too difficult to support continuous, all-day
operation in fields located distant from power
sources and backup battery storage. In industries
such as construction or material handling,
nearby connections to the power grid enable
opportunity charging, battery swapping, and other
strategies even if one charge will not last a full
day. Unfortunately, agriculture does not have that
advantage.
However, as battery, charging, and other
electrification technologies continuously improve,
the agricultural industry has begun adopting
electric machinery and equipment with growing
frequency.
